A Canadian Buck

'A Canadian Buck' - on the Sibley Peninsula on Lake Superior

I guess you could say Canadian wildlife talks to me - literally.

We encountered this buck while hiking the Sibley Peninsula northeast of Thunder Bay ON. As you can see from the photo he voiced his disapproval of our arrival. We were trespassing on his territory. He stuck around just long enough for me to shoot this photo.

I wasn't totally prepared for the encounter. The camera was attached to a tripod for landscape shots and, since landscapes don't move, the shutter speed was set very low. Some quick adjustments allowed me to capture this photo before the buck disappeared into the forest.

I have seen many deer in my travels but rarely a buck with full antlers. What a magnificent thing.
