Horseshoe Cove

'Horseshoe Cove' -  in Pukaskwa National Park on Lake Superior

I suppose it's safe to say that I love 'moody' photographs.

In landscape photography clouds are often a big part of the mood. This photograph is a case in point. I have visited Horseshoe Cove in Pukaskwa National Park many times. I have camped just down the trail. During all those visits I recall very few sunny days with clear skies. Invariably, clouds filled all or part of the sky. This is the nature of the north shore of Lake Superior. I have learned to embrace this weather and to try to make it an integral part of my photos. See Gitche Gumee Gloaming

'North Shore Mood'
"For me, the goal is to capture the inherent beauty of a place and to create an image that expresses how that landscape makes me feel."

Many photographers long for that special shot with unique lighting, the kind of photograph that makes you say, "Wow! That's amazing." For me, the goal is to capture the inherent beauty of a place and to create an image that expresses how that landscape makes me feel. It's the 'feel', the 'mood' of a place, that speaks to me, that I want to capture, that I want to share. This is, perhaps, a different process but very rewarding when it works.
