A Thin Place

A Thin Place

In a previous post Seeking Spirit Island, I wrote about the Celtic notion of 'thin places' where heaven and earth seemingly come closer together. I'm sure the Celts believed this literally but, for me, the imagery is enough. There are special places, places with unique energy, places that speak to me, that call to me like Sirens luring sailors onto the rocks.

I don't for a moment actually believe the Celtic tales but the imagery adds some poetic colour to something that is difficult to put into words. It is as though heaven and earth come closer together in these places. Whatever separates heaven and earth grows thinner. The language of mythology is often wonderfully expressive and somehow appropriate in a metaphorical sense.

This photo cries out to be entitled A Thin Place. Mysterious, moody, alluring and, after all, light is breaking through the clouds.
